Frequently asked questions

Do you post to outside the UK?

We are happy to post worldwide. However, if you are outside the UK please contact us for a shipping price to your destination when placing your order.

Do you have a printed catalogue?

We don’t have a printed catalogue because our designs change so frequently!  However, if you have problems accessing our website we are happy to print out and post to you a few pages if you can be specific in what you are interested in.  We do, of course, accept orders by post as well as online and can include an order form with the printed pages.

Can I telephone my order to you?

We are unable to take payment by telephone. However, we are happy to reserve items for you, following a telephone call, while your cheque is posted to us.

Do you have a shop?

We don’t have a shop. However, our website gives information about sales events that we will be attending during the year. These are mainly the large events such as Wonderwool in Wales and Woolfest in Cumbria, but we also visit a few smaller events.

Is ordering on the internet safe?

Yes. We use PayPal to handle and process payments. The transactions are encrypted and secure.  We do not have access to any information about your credit or debit card(s).

Are the colours displayed accurate?

This depends on your monitor so we cannot guarantee accuracy. However, our images are adjusted to show colours as close to the originals as possible. If the exact colour is an issue for you then send us an email with your address and we will send you a small piece of wool.  But please don’t ask for one of everything as we don’t carry a shade card!

Are the felted bags washable?

Absolutely, but remove buttons, clasps, etc. first. Handwashing gently in hand-warm water is great, using a non-biological powder or liquid. Reshape your item and leave to dry as stated in the pattern. You can use your washing machine too, but make sure that you select a temperature significantly below that required for felting. For most a temperature of 30 degrees centigrade will be fine, unless the yarn used contains alpaca or llama.

When will I get my order?

We aim to post within 7 working days, and often within 2 days. Parcels are normally sent by second class Royal Mail so delivery times will depend on Royal Mail or its agents. We notify you by email when the parcel has been dispatched and will also notify you if we anticipate delay.  This can occasionally happen during the holiday season.

Can I telephone you with queries?

Yes of course – please do. We can be reached on 0794 090 7738. However, being a small company we often cannot answer your call immediately; so please leave a message on our answerphone, including your name and number, and we will call you back as soon as we can.

Do I pay VAT?

At the moment our sales are not liable for VAT, so this has not been added to the price of your goods. However, this may change in the future as our business grows!

Can you guarantee that all the yarn in your kits is British?

It is important to understand what is meant by yarn being ‘British’. Some manufacturers designate yarn that is processed in the UK as British.  We are more specific and use the term ‘British’ as meaning yarn that is not only processed but also made from wool grown on sheep within the UK. All of the breed specific wool is definitely British grown; indeed some we buy directly from the sheep farmers themselves and are trying to increase this direct purchasing. Other yarns are, to the best of our knowledge, at least 50% British grown wool and, where possible, much more than 50% and often 100%. When talking with new suppliers we do always ask the origin of the wool grown, as well as processing details.  Occasionally we have yarn that is British processed but not British grown, such as our South American punta wool and we make this very clear on the website.

Will the price of your goods ever change?

Well, there can be increases (not popular) and reductions (very popular). We have not increased our prices for over 2 years and hope to keep them at current levels for most or all of 2009, despite the increasing price of materials. New kits, of course, are priced depending on the current price of materials. From time to time we decide to clearout old stock to make room for new designs. The price of these items is significantly reduced and these can be found in Special offers.
